<Jay> Did you hear about the Linux-car finishing last in the indy500?
<MrBeek> I did now ;-)
<MrBeek> Not surprised though… You know how impossible it is to find a decent driver for linux hardware?

8 new games this week, check em out!
GAMES

You Brits are probably familiar with this game, but it is new to me. The object is to select a group of numbers, then figure out the math that was done to them to get to the target number. Call me a math nerd, but I found the game to be really fun and challenging.
If you need help figuring it out, here is a youtube link to the actually tv show.

Onion holder for slicing
NSFarSighted and Crash893 were on the right track but not 100% (plus they have won before). So this week’s winner is Margaret!
Put your guesses in the comments to win our fabulous prize (a militantplatypus sticker). You must be a registered user to enter.

Not a lot of info on this one, but some interesting imagery
This keyboard is a victim of suspected arson in a lumber mill a couple years ago. The keyboard itself was not on fire, and the underside of it is still in perfect shape…basically the heat of the fire above it melted all the plastic in interesting ways.

We here at Militantplatypus always enjoy new ways of looking at old things. Each of the above is a pie chart representing the percent color used in country’s flag. So countries like France show up as equal thirds, and countries such as Belize, are more complex. If you ignore the fact that they are alphabetical, it is also fun to try and guess which pie chart is which flag (you can click to chart to see the flag).

This might even be true:
Manure: In the 16th and 17th centuries, everything had to be transported by ship and it was also before commercial fertilizer’s invention, so large shipments of manure were common.
It was shipped dry, because in dry form it weighed a lot less than when wet, but once water (at sea) hit it, it not only became heavier, but the process of fermentation began again, of which a by product is methane gas.
As the stuff was stored below decks in bundles you can see what could (and did) happen. Methane began to build up below decks and the first time someone came below at night with a lantern, BOOOOM!
Several ships were destroyed in this manner before it was determined just what was happening. After that, the bundles of manure were always stamped with the term “Ship High In Transit”, which meant for the sailors to stow it high enough off the lower decks so that any water that came into the hold would not touch this volatile cargo and start the production of methane.
Thus evolved the term “S.H.I.T .” , (Ship High In Transport) which has come down through the centuries and is in use to this very day. You probably did not know the true history of this word.
