The plate that shifted was 600 miles long, and moved 15 feet.

The resulting earthquake measured 9.0, the largest recorded earthquake in 40 years.

Early estimates put the tsunami at 33 feet tall.

The tsunami traveled 4000 miles.

At least nine nations were hit, including Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, the Maldives, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand

The tsunami traveled as far as Somalia where 14 people were killed

Up to a million people have been forced from their homes.

The current death toll is at 22,000.
