It goes to x23!

In some places. Someone took the time to dissect the maps.google URL, and then went searching the world to see what was there.
- Select a location and switch to satellite view
- Zoom in as far as you can, and click “link to this page†at the top right
- Now replace the “z†parameter in the URL with a higher value, e.g. 20, 22, or 23, and wait. Some locations will now show more detailed imagery
The above shows a rare x23 zoom. It has been noted that you cannot zoom in any further than you can on Google Earth, but atleast this way you don’t have to install anything.

That’s in the middle of nowhere. Seriously that might actually be an aerial photograph of BFE! I tried zooming out until I could figure out where it was, without looking at the little map in the lower left, and I got to 2/3 of the way out before I got it. CRAZY COOL!

That image is from the “National Geographic African Megaflyover Project”. I recently replied to the “Google Mpas Mgega-zoom” story over at Google Sightseeing and also posted a few more examples of images form the flyover.
